Pipeline Wall Thickness Estimator

Calculate Pipeline Requirements: Wall Thickness Estimator

Now you can optimize your pipeline specifications while designing your field layout

Pipeline Wall Thickness Estimator

Design safer pipelines, risers and jumpers with accurate wall thickness calculations.

  • What you can do
    • Determine required pipeline, riser and jumper wall thickness based on industry standards
    • Calculate specifications for rigid pipelines, risers, and jumpers
    • Apply either API RP 1111 (4th Edition) or DNVGL OS-F101 (2013 Edition) guidelines
    • Account for both burst and collapse design load cases
    • Transfer calculated values directly to your connection's metadata
  • How it works

The Wall Thickness Estimator is built into FieldTwin, calculating optimal pipeline specifications based on your project parameters:

Project Level Parameters: Use default engineering values for steel properties (Modulus of Elasticity, Poisson's ratio) and environmental factors (seawater density, gravitational acceleration)

Elevation Reference: Set your reference height where maximum design pressure is specified (typically a platform location above mean sea level)

Connection-Specific Inputs: Enter eight key values for each connection:

    • Maximum Design Pressure
    • Maximum Design Temperature
    • Connection Outer Diameter
    • Minimum Internal Pressure
    • Pipe Corrosion Allowance
    • Pipe Grade (X60, X65, etc.)
    • Fabrication Process
    • Service Type (Oil, Gas Injection, Water Injection, etc.)
  • Getting results
    • The module calculates two thickness values - one for burst scenarios and one for collapse scenarios
    • The larger of these two values is automatically selected as the recommended wall thickness
    • You can transfer the calculated value directly to your connection's metadata with one click
    • Choose which design code (API or DNVGL) to apply to your final selection

Avoid rework by ensuring pipelines meet safety standards from the start
