Predict Pipeline Behavior: Span Estimator
Now you can identify and address potential free spans during the design phase.

See how your pipelines will sit on the seabed before installation
-
What you can do
- Visualize how pipelines will deflect across uneven seabed
- Identify potential free spans along your pipeline routes
- Calculate vertical deflection using structural engineering principles
- Compare modified pipeline profiles against seabed or topography
- Export coordinate data for further analysis in other tools
-
How it works
The Span Estimator is built into FieldTwin, analyzing your pipeline routes against bathymetry data to show you exactly how pipes will behave:
Analyzing your routes
- The tool searches for potential span shoulders along your connection route
- It applies engineering equations to calculate vertical deflection at each point
- A rapid evaluation uses an approximate stiffness model for initial assessment
- Default settings work for most steel pipelines, with options to adjust for specific cases
-
Visualizing results
- See the calculated pipeline profile alongside seabed or topographic profiles in 2D view
- Easily identify where your pipeline may form free spans
- Choose to update your 3D model with the span-adjusted pipeline routing
- Export the modified profile as XYZ coordinates for use in other engineering tools

Instead of discovering spanning issues during installation or inspection, identify and mitigate these problems during the design phase
